So the President Was on The Tonight Show Last Night...

And, throughout the job interview, Jay Leno requested him about [content note: rape culture] Indiana Republican Senate candidate Richard Mourdock's "pregnancy from rape is really a gift from God" comments, here is what went down:Leno: This senate candidate Richard Mourdock—Obama: Yeah.Leno: He earned an argument today—or a minimum of I first viewed it today—I want quote what he stated. He stated, he was requested about rape and—"I battled by using it, myself, for any very long time, however i found realize existence is really a gift from God. And even when existence starts inside a horrible situation of rape, it's something God meant to happen." Which, I am talking about, this appears like we are to Todd Akin time again. Leader Obama: Well, you realize, I'm not sure how these men develop these ideas. Allow me to make a simple proposition. Leno: Mm-hmm. Obama: Rape is rape. It's a crime. [modest applause] And thus, these various distinctions about rape and, you know—don't make an excessive amount of sense in my experience. Don't make sense at all in my experience. The 2nd factor this underscores, though, this is why you wouldn't want a lot of politicians—mostly male—making choices about women's healthcare choices. [huge applause] Women can handle making these choices, in consultation using their partners, using their doctors—and, you realize, for political figures to wish to intrude within this stuff, frequently occasions with no information, is a big problem. Which is clearly part of what's on the line within this election. There is a Top Court that—you know, typically a leader is gonna have most likely another handful of visits throughout the path of his term. And, you realize, Roe versus. Wade is most likely hanging within the balance. You have issues like Planned Being a parent where—you know, that organization provides countless women cervical cancer tests, mammograms, a myriad of fundamental health care. Leno: Right. Obama: Therefore i think it is important for all of us to know that ladies can handle making these choices, which these aren't just women's issues they are family issues. [applause]Leno: Right.Obama: Because, you realize, women are half the—women are getting in two the earnings in many homes, and it is important.(And 100% from the earnings in many homes, too.)Rape is rape. It's a crime. And thus, these various distinctions about rape and, you know—don't make an excessive amount of sense in my experience. Don't make sense at all in my experience. Our Leader stated that. I possibly could participate in it all day long.
